Gov't Accountant/CPA
Job Description
Hiring Hub is seeking a very detail-oriented and reliable Government Accountant to perform professional accounting duties related to financial reporting, budget oversight, auditing, and compliance with public sector regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of governmental accounting principles (GAAP, GASB) and experience working within public sector finance systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and maintain financial records in accordance with GAAP and GASB standards
Monitor expenditures, revenues, and fund balances for accuracy and compliance
Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and financial statements
Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and grant funding records
Prepare reports for internal departments, state agencies, and external auditors
Review invoices, purchase orders, and payment requests for accuracy and proper authorization
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and financial policies
Participate in audits by compiling data and responding to auditor inquiries
Assist in managing capital projects, grants, and restricted funds
Recommend improvements to financial processes and internal controls
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
At least 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a government or public sector environment
Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and fund accounting principles
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Tyler Munis, QuickBooks, Oracle, or SAP)
Strong Excel and data analysis skills
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA or CGFM certification (or working toward certification)
Experience with governmental budgeting and financial reporting
Familiarity with grant accounting and compliance
